Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. The 22-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.
Supporting and developing practice development across all nursing roles, and providing a progressive learning environment for all grades of nursing staff, you will develop strategies to support learning and education in the classroom and clinically. A role model for best practice nursing, you must work clinically for part of each week.
You should produce written accounts of each episode of clinical facilitation, documenting learning achieved and areas for development. Developing and co-ordinating planned educational programmes and opportunities for all nursing staff, you will support mentors and preceptors, ensuring that learning opportunities are effectively utilised. You will promote research awareness by disseminating relevant evidence-based and researched findings. Managing succession planning and recruitment and participating in QA strategies and audit, you must stay up to date with relevant specialist, NMC, Directorate, Portfolio and Government guidelines and protocols.
A Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Register or an equivalent nursing body, you have registration with the NMC or equivalent, plus significant post-registration experience in an Acute General Hospital setting within the last decade. You also have a recognised mentorship qualification and ALS certification (or be willing to undertake). Previous experience in a development, teaching or leadership role in an NHS organisation, at a minimum of Band 6 or above will be essential, with awareness of health and social care trends and current professional issues. You have a background in supervising and in analysing and interpreting information to develop solutions or solve problems.
In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
